Hey all,
Thinking about changing the oil on my Accent. I usually take it somewhere to get it done, but thinking about trying it myself to save a little money and also gain the experience.
Was looking up oil filters and considering going with a Wix filter as I’ve heard good things and they are cheaper than OEM. Anybody have any experience with them, or have a different recommendation?
Also...a
nybody else ever noticed sponsored listings on Amazon don’t make any sense...yes, I am looking up oil funnels for a Hyundai Accent, so dresses are definitely related! 9_9

I’ve been using them on the Vibe and longboi for years . No complaints.

Amazon thinks you’d look cute in the strappy purple top.
My google-fu says Wix is great albeit difficult to install on some vehicles?

The Miata has always gotten Wix oil filters. Absolutely nothing noteworthy, which I think is what you want.

I always use OEM, only a few $$$ more and make me feel better.
Also, based on your recommended items, it’s clear that Amazon’ s algorithm has determined that you are pregnant. Congrats!

I worked at an auto parts wholesale store...don’t use Fram is around the best advice I can give. They had higher failure rates and issues. Wix is good...NAPA filters used to be made by Wix iirc. ..I’d guess they still do.

Yout drive a Hyundai Accent and Amazon just assumes you’re a woman? Way to profile, Jeff.

I use Wix filters in my LS’s. Good filters, never had a problem.
I have had a Fram filter fail after my car sat parked all winter. The filter internally collapsed and caused low oil pressure at idle. That was a terrifying first drive of the Spring season and not a mistake ill ever m ake again.

Many, if not most, Accent drivers wear dresses though

Wix and Baldwin are probably the manufactures of choice for very high quality filters, with Baldwin focusing more on the industrial and equipment market than Wix does. Napa gold filters are a wix filter, but with white paint, and I think their “platinum” filters are the wix “synthetic” filter focued on long life. You don’t want any of the long- life filters. They trade a filter media that only traps larger particles to achieve the longer service life.

I’ve heard a few neg
ative things about Fram filters, that’s why I’m not considering them!

Good to know, thanks for the input!

Maybe I should go to the hospital...

The blue-green is more my color!
The Accent has a pretty easy to access oil filter from underneath on ramps, so access and removal shouldn’t be an issue, hopefully!

Yup, nothing of note is fine....no news is good news! Thanks!

Thanks for the vote of confidence for them!

Yup, I feel violated, really.

I can say with certainty there is not one dress in my inventory!

Good to know, I wasn’t going to go with a Napa filter anyway. Was mostly deciding between OEM and Wix!

I second this.

Wix are fine if not better than oem. I like K&N but they had trouble once and are band on race tracks.
Fram and stp are the cheapest and have known issues

Frankly, I'm sort sure a dress is the best thing to wear while changing your oil but they will make you feel sexier than driving an Accent so... Maybe try one on?
![]() 09/11/2019 at 21:55 |

Wix it is! I can’t get STP around here anyway, unless I bought online an shipped....though it sounds like I don’t want to use them regardless...

I dunno, I am perfectly fine being unsexy and driving me Accent :P
I am one of those weirdos that actually likes his little Korean penalty box!

The nice thing with that knowledge is that a Napa "gold" filter can be easier to get ahold of over the counter compared to the wix you want with black paint.

Blue-green in the strappy style, I'm sure it exists.

I used to use Wix filters when I still did cross-border shopping. They’re OK. Forum guys all recommend them for the Ecotec, but my mechanic doesn’t seem to be too fond of them, he showed me when they come out the filter material all looks wavy and stuff. Explains that it’s filtering but a bit restrictive, causing the material to bend, so it’s not spinning as well as it should.

I’ve been using them for years. Good stuff.

I always trust Wix, I’ve worked with their parent company before and came away impressed. Makes it good enough to me.

I go Wix for the Honda and Mann for the Germans

Napa filters are rebadged Wix. Wix meets or Exceeds OEM specification.

Hmm odd, I’ll take that into consideration. That’s the first bit of negativity towards them that I’ve found, actually!

Oh, color doesn’t matter and there’s a Napa a few minutes from me, so I may just use your idea!

Pr etty much unless you’re strick to 3k rule.
I have used Wix (Napa Gold here in the US) on just about everything ranging from I-4 to v8 , cartridges or canisters. Never had an issue and if you watch some You Tube oil filter cutaways, there are times wix has more filter pleats than OEM . Which equals better cleaning capacity

It’s all I use. They good

I didn’t know K&N is banned on tracks. What led to that?
![]() 09/12/2019 at 15:20 |

It is mainly for motor cycles but I know they are banned at Mid-ohio.
B ut from what I understand is issue popped up when K&N moved production from Thailand to China

Gotcha. M y van probably won’t end up on a track, but you never know!! Amazon keeps selling the K&N filter for the van for less than $5 at times.
Synthetic amazon oil and K&N filter cost me $30 out the door, can’t beat that

I know I’m late to the party here but I always use Napa Gold (wix) for anything in my stable.

No worries! More input is always welcome!
